About Master’s Squad

Master’s Squad is part of the Thurso Amateur Swimming Club, who are members of the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association Ltd, as such all persons who wish to participate in training sessions have to be 18 years of age and be a member of Thurso ASC.

Apart from the minimum age there is no prerequisite to joining the squad, although an ability to stay afloat would be an advantage.

The training scheme and sessions are set around competitive training, the emphasis being, that you participate at your level (exercise or competitive swimming), and swimming the strokes you prefer at the speed & distance you wish to do.  Stoke technique is also taught, inline with the Scottish Swimming Association competition laws.

Sessions

Monday

8:00pm to 9:00pm

Thursday

8:00pm to 9:00pm

Saturday

Attendance

The Coach keeps a weekly attendance register.  Due to the increased demand for places in our Masters Squad we now find it necessary to consider the allocation of places according to attendance percentage & promptness of fee payments.  Only swimmers meeting the criteria will be invited to rejoin Masters at annual renewal in March of each year.

Waiting List

For safety reasons and for adequate training space we have to limit the numbers in Master’s Squad.  If we are running at full capacity we utilise the TASC Waiting List Database.  Your details will be held on our system until a space becomes available that is suitable for your training needs.   We will then contact you regarding joining the squad.

Competing

As a member of TASC, you are welcome to compete in our Annual Club Gala held in November/December.  There is also the option of competing in Master’s competitions held in venues throughout Scotland.  TASC regularly hold timing session on a Sunday afternoon, details of when & how to enter is circulated to swimmers several weeks before they take place

Child Protection

All senior members of TASC are required to complete Child Protection vetting procedures.  The General Management Committee, following consultation with the Child Protection Officer, has decided that due to the close contact between our Masters and Junior swimmers in the changing rooms and at competition that Masters should also complete these procedures.  Forms should be completed at point of joining and returned to Christine Firth, our Child Protection Officer.  All information is private and confidential and forms will ultimately be held by Scottish Swimming in Stirling.

Equipment

Excluding swimming costumes, goggles, caps & flippers, TASC provides all the equipment that you may need during the lesson.  We do have a stock of costumes, goggles etc. which may be purchased on the first Monday of the month.  It is advisable to take a water bottle for training sessions.  Atlanta Sports also provide a discount for TASC Members.

Safety

Normal safety rules of Thurso Swimming Pool apply and their lifeguards will be on duty throughout our sessions.  As swimming is a very physical sport we keep a medical register for all swimmers.  It is important that the Coach is advised of any pre-existing or new medical condition that may affect you whilst in the water.

Entry Fees

TASC does not charge a fee per session, however the usual Highland Council entry fee is payable to the Pool Staff at the kiosk.
