Thurso
Amateur Swimming
Club Swimmers should be changed and ready to enter the
water at the start time and should be collected no later than 15 minutes after
their session has ended.
The usual Highland Council
entry fee is payable to the Pool Staff at the kiosk. An annual
membership of £25 per swimmer/£7.50 per non-swimmer is payable to TASC (this
amount will be revised following the SASA AGM in February 2008). This also
covers your SASA membership which includes vital insurances. Membership is due after your child has been
at the Club for two weeks, thereafter at the normal renewal date (March).
Payment and SASA membership forms should be arranged with the membership
secretary. Please note that yours child's place in the Club is not secured
until membership has been paid. Failure to pay within two weeks will indicate
that they do not wish to take the allotted space and we will reallocate this space to
the next person on the waiting list.
Lanes 1 to 8 during our Monday night sessions is
our Learn to Swim Programme. We hope
that you child will be keen to progress to our competitive section, the
Squads. Width lessons are planned around
the ability of each lane. Some lessons
may include learning through play. We
encourage parents to spectate but would be grateful if instructions were left
to the lane teacher, as it can be distracting for both the teacher and the rest
of the class.
When spaces become available a senior Club
Official will test the children. The
decision to promote a child will be based on ongoing assessment results during
regular sessions, stroke technique, self-discipline, commitment and behaviour,
not on how fast they can go or the length of time they have been in the current
lane. From Lane 6, your child will be
considered for inclusion in timing sessions out with the normal Monday Club
Night. Once your child has achieved
official times though competing at our own timing sessions or at our local Gala
they will be on the first rung of the ladder towards entering our competitive
squads. When spaces become available in
Development Squad the coach will look at all the swimmers in lanes 6 and above
who have achieved official times, he will take into account the spaces
available, the swimmers commitment to compete and train and also
attendance. Only swimmers who are
prepared to compete locally (and eventually away from home) will be considered
for promotion. Once your child has
reached lane 8 and has completed the 12 week lane 8 schedule and they do not
wish to progress into the competitive side of the Club then they have completed
our Learn To Swim Programme following which there will be no place available
within the Club as we currently do not have a facility for recreational
swimmers.
TASC have a Child Protection Policy in place a
copy of which is enclosed with this pack.
Normal safety rules of Thurso Swimming Pool apply and their lifeguards
will be on duty throughout our sessions.
Due to the lack of volunteers and the large
numbers of children in the sessions TASC can only be responsible for the
swimmers during their time on the poolside.
Once children have left the poolside they are the responsibility of the
parents NOT the Club or the pool staff. Parents
must ensure that they are at the pool to collect their child by the end of
their session. If parents
consistently fail to collect their child on time then their place within the
club will be withdrawn.
TASC does not tolerate bullying. Unfortunately we cannot monitor the changing
rooms during lesson time. If your child
is the victim of bullying please speak to any Club Official or the Pool Staff
who will deal with the problem as tactfully as possible.
Due to the number of children in the water during
each session and the fact that a structured lesson plan has to be completed in
that time a high standard of behaviour is required from each swimmer. Swimmers will be expected to be attentive and
to follow the instructions given by the lane coach. If the swimmer does not meet the standards
the lane coach will speak with your child.
If unacceptable behaviour continues then you will be notified by the
Club Night Convener with a view to solving the problems. Continued unacceptable behaviour may lead to: Your child being removed from the water for
the rest of the session, Your child
being moved to another session or The matter being referred to the Management
Committee with a view to removal of membership
The Club Night Convener keeps a weekly attendance
register. As we have large waiting lists
we would be very grateful if you would advise us if your child has decided not
to return to the club or if your child will be off sick for a long period of
time.
As swimming is a very physical sport we keep a
medical register for all swimmers. It is
important that the Membership Secretary is advised of any pre-existing or new
medical condition that may affect your child.
This information is then passed on to the lane teacher who will tailor
the lessons to suit your child’s needs.
This information is kept on file and is only available to officials
within TASC on a need to know basis. If your child is asthmatic please ensure they
have an inhaler available at all times.
